When the print version of the "Fairfield County Independent" newspaper started publishing, the co-owners contacted me and explained that they needed an online version of their newspaper.
I created a website for their newspaper using WordPress, with a website design that matched their print edition and helped their readers find related articles. I also created a Spanish version of the website, because the co-owners decided to add articles written in Spanish.
The co-owners of the newspaper showed me a copy of their print edition and asked me to create a website that looked similar. I created a website design with colors that matched their website logo, with similar fonts and background colors to their print edition.
I converted the sections of their printed newspaper, into categories on their website.
I setup author archives, so each writer's articles could be easily found in a list.
When reading an article, I showed the latest headlines for that article's category in the sidebar. For example, I showed the latest sports headlines in the sidebar of a sports article.
The co-owners wanted to draw attention to a new category of their news articles. (Farming articles) So I promoted that news category by adding a box in the website sidebar that showed the latest "Farming" headlines.
The co-owners needed to include advertising on this website, so they could earn money from it. So I included "advertising banners" (aka. images that promote a company or organization) in the sidebar of the website.
After the website was launched on the Internet, the co-owners wanted to add articles written in Spanish. So I created the Spanish version of the website and made it easy for website visitors to switch between "English" or "EspaƱol" by using the main menu. The Spanish version of the website translated everything into Spanish, including the front page, the articles, the article archives, the search results, etc.
